Unsurpassed Fuel Economy
2009 Ford Escape is powered by a new 2.5L Duratec I-4 engine with advanced features such as intake variable cam timing technology. It's teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission in the XLS Manual model and a new 6-speed automatic in the XLS, XLT and Limited. The 2.5L Duratec produces higher power ratings than its I-4 predecessor, with 171 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. All this power comes with fuel economy ratings that are unsurpassed in the small SUV class.* So if you're looking for an SUV that delivers excellent economy as well as responsive performance, the 2.5L Duratec in a Ford Escape is your way to go.
*Class is Small SUV. EPA-estimated 22 City/28 Hwy mpg with I-4 manual, FWD. EPA-estimated 28 Hwy with I-4 automatic, FWD.

New 6 Speed Transmission
2009 Escape models with automatic transmission are equipped with a new 6-speed gearbox. Its wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds provides responsive acceleration at the low end and enhanced fuel economy* at the overdrive 6th gear.
*EPA estimated 20 City/28 Hwy mpg, I4 automatic, FWD; 18 City/26 Hwy mpg, V6 automatic, FWD.

Big Towing Capacity
If towing a boat or camper is part of your active lifestyle, the 240-hp Duratec 30 3.0-liter V6 is the way to go - it gives Escape XLT and Limited models a big towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Improved Handling
A big reason Ford Escape handles so well is the independent double lateral and semi-trailing arm design of its rear suspension system. Each rear wheel operates independently, so it can negotiate rough road conditions on its own terms. For 2009, Escape delivers improved ride, handling and quietness with a new 18.5mm rear stabilizer bar and revised suspension tuning.

240-hp Duratec V6
Another great Escape performance option is the potent 240-hp 3.0L Duratec V6 teamed with an efficient new 6-speed automatic transmission. It cranks out 20% more power than last year while also delivering improved highway fuel economy.* What's more, when powered by the Duratec V6 and properly equipped with the optional Class II Trailer Tow Package, an Escape XLT or Limited can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
*EPA-estimated 18 City/26 Hwy mpg, FWD.

Eco-Friendly Seats
The innovative Earth-friendly cloth seat fabric in Escape XLT is made from post-industrial materials - polyester fibers that would have ended up in landfills otherwise. Furthermore, the cushions use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils of various plant seeds such as soybeans. More than simply "green," the durable, comfortable and stylish nature of the material also makes it a perfect fit for Escape.

Seating / Cargo Space
Escape seats five passengers with its front bucket seats and 60/40 rear seats. Fold both rear seat backs down and you have 66.3 cu. ft. of space for carrying cargo. If you don't need all of this space, you can still seat one or two rear passengers and have extra room for cargo.

Roof Rack
There are times when you can never have enough inside cargo space. When you need more, Escape can carry up to 100 lbs. of cargo on top with its roof rack. The roof rack side rails are standard on XLT and Limited, and available on XLS models with the optional Cargo Package. If you want roof-rail crossbars, they're available for all models with the Cargo Package.

Wet Trunk
Escape features an available lockable wet trunk underneath the rear cargo area to protect the carpeting from things like those wet and dirty boots you brought in from off the trail. Available with the optional Cargo Package, the wet trunk is a handy place for post-adventure gear.

Moon Roof
Let in more sunshine and fresh air with the available power moonroof. A sunshade and mini overhead console with storage bin and map lights are included. The power moonroof on Escape XLT is available with Ford SYNC® in the Sun & SYNC Value Package. And it's available in Escape Limited along with the 320-watt Premium Sound System in the Moon & Tune Value Package.

Styling
One look and you know the 2009 Escape is built for people on the move. The exterior design presents a tough and striking chrome grille, hood, headlamps and available integrated side steps. Wheel options include available 17" chrome-clad aluminum wheels on Escape XLT and Limited.

Ford SYNC

Other big news for 2009 Ford Escape is SIRIUS® Satellite Radio - it's standard on XLT and Limited models.* SIRIUS® delivers more than 130 channels for music, news, sports and entertainment.

Intelligent 4WD
On- or off-road, Escape's available advanced 4WD System is always on and always working to help provide maximum traction. What makes the system so smart is its ability to control traction 200 times per second. It then uses that input to automatically adjust torque distribution as needed to give you maximum grip.

Ambient Lighting
The color-configurable interior ambient lighting feature lets you change the color of light in the footwells, in the front and rear center console and front cupholders. Choose from a palette of seven colors to suit your mood. It's available on XLT with the Leather Comfort Package and standard in the high-end Escape Limited.

Advancetrac with RSC
All Escape models come equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors measuring both vehicle yaw and roll motion. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object - and RSC® applies brake pressure and adjusts engine power to help keep you under control. Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.

Anti-Lock Brakes
Escape offers many active safety features designed to help you avoid an accident, such as the standard, power Anti-Lock Brake System, which can help you maintain steering control during severe braking.

Air Bag Coverage
Escape is designed to create a safe interior environment with a strong body structure that includes front crumple zone and side-door intrusion beams. Dual-stage front airbags* included in the Personal Safety System® enhance protection for the driver and front passenger. The six standard airbags also include front seat-mounted side airbags and the Safety Canopy® System with side curtain airbags.
*Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.

Heated Side Mirrors
Rear vision in inclement weather is improved with heated side mirrors, available with the Escape Limited Luxury Package. Also included are heated front seats, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control air conditioning, and Reverse Sensing System..
