Shift on the Fly 4 Wheel Drive
An electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case is standard equipment with Ranger 4x4 models, allowing an easy and quick 4WD engagement that doesn't require stopping the vehicle.
A Suspension to Match the Intention
Ranger's independent short/long arm front suspension with stabilizer bar keeps the ride smooth under normal driving conditions for XL and XLT 4x2. But for rougher going, a front torsion bar is substituted on XL and XLT 4x4; select SPORT and FX4, vehicles more likely to off-road it. The 4x4s also get jolt-absorbing heavy-duty gas shocks.
Efficient Transmissions
Both Ranger transmission choices, manual and automatic, have an overdrive 5th gear that helps conserve fuel while cruising at highway speeds. Teamed with the efficient standard 2.3L I-4 engine, these transmissions play a big part in achieving Ranger's unsurpassed fuel economy (other Ford Motor Company vehicles excluded).
High Fidelity Sound
People who drive the responsive compact Ford Ranger deserve a great high-end sound system. And you have just that with the optional Pioneer® 290-watt Sound System. It features a 6-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3/SAT capability, audio input jack and AM/FM receiver. A center console-mounted 6.5" subwoofer, 5 1/4" polypropylene mid-range speakers with separate 3/4" soft dome tweeters, and 6"x8" dual-cone full-range speakers deliver outstanding fidelity. MP3 Audio Input Jack
MP3 players are enormously popular. They're highly portable and can carry a large volume of your favorite music. So all that music doesn't lie dormant while you're out on the road, Ford Ranger provides a standard MP3 audio input jack (except on XL model with standard AM/FM stereo). Just plug in your player and listen to your entire library through your Ranger's sound system.
Personal Safety System
The state-of-the-art Personal Safety System®, standard on all Ford Ranger models, includes dual-stage driver front passenger airbags and a front passenger sensing system that can calculate a person's approximate weight, then send a signal to automatically activate or deactivate the airbag accordingly.
Standard 4 Wheel ABS
Standard equipment on all Ranger pickups is an Anti-Lock Braking System, which delivers smooth, straight stops, and helps you maintain control while braking under a variety of driving conditions.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
It's very important to check your tire pressure regularly to keep all four inflated within the manufacturer's specified pressure range, because tire pressure affects ride comfort, safety, and fuel economy. That's why all Ranger models come equipped with a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which alerts you when a tire is low.
Longer Cargo Box
Ranger is the only compact pickup to offer a 7-foot-long box, which allows it to carry more (and longer) cargo. A 6-foot cargo box is standard.
Standard Trailer Hitch
Every Ranger model comes equipped with a standard trailer tow receiver hitch, providing Class I capability (up to 2,000 lbs.) with the 2.3L I-4 engine and Class III capability (up to 6,000 lbs.) with the available 4.OL V6. See your owner's manual for complete details.
